Welcome to the Central Maryland cluster of Au Pair USA. My name is Esme Smith and I have been the Local Coordinator here since 2001, working with host families in the Baltimore, Annapolis, Bowie, Laurel, and Glen Burnie areas of Maryland. I am married and the mother of 3 children and we all love to travel and learn about new cultures. I have a personal history with cultural exchange. I grew up in Montreal, Canada and lived briefly in London, England with my family when I was 5. I lived with a host family in Tours, France while I was a college student. I joined Au Pair USA because I had a wonderful experience during my time studying abroad and I love to promote that kind of cultural exchange to other families.

I think that being part of the Au Pair USA program is like having a ticket to the world. Host families get the opportunity to host a bright and out-going young adult from another country and allow them to join their family for a year. International au pairs on the program are excited to share their language, food, customs and more with their new American families.

The Au Pair USA program works great for busy parents who need reliable, flexible in-home child care. The au pairs become like an older sibling living in your home, so the children form a real bond with them. Au pairs who join the program sign up because they love working with kids, so the au pairs have a lot of fun as well! All au pairs have documented child care experience in their home countries and they receive first aid, CPR and safety training here in the U.S. as part of the program.

Your family will get reliable, personalized live-in child care, and at about $340 per week, the cost is often less than traditional day care or nanny services.
