The Au Pair USA Local Coordinator for the Charlotte, North Carolina area is
Paige Twer
Welcome to the Charlotte, North Carolina cluster for Au Pair USA! My name is Paige Twer and I’m the Local Coordinator for Charlotte and the surrounding areas, including: Gastonia, Mooresville, Concord and Kannapolis, NC, as well as Rock Hill and Fort Mill, SC.
I was born and raised in Central Illinois, but always had a lifelong goal of becoming a Southern girl! I now live in Charlotte, NC with my husband and two young daughters. We love life here in the Queen City and can not imagine living anywhere else! Before having my own children, I taught preschool and spent time as a nanny. I now teach Sunday school, volunteer at both of my girls’ schools on a weekly basis and am deeply involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & Western North Carolina.
I became a Local Coordinator for Au Pair USA because I am very aware of the rewards and challenges of meshing multiple cultures. My husband’s parents are native Germans, so a few years ago, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to host an au pair from Germany. She stayed with our family to help with our children, then much younger, in hopes of speaking more fluent English before starting her university studies. We remain very close with her to this day and it was a wonderful experience for everyone. I hope that I can help other families enjoy the au pair experience as much as I did.
Au pairs are an affordable and flexible form of live-in child care. The cost of hosting an au pair averages to about $340 per week, and many families find that more affordable than daycare, especially because there are no per-child fees. Au pairs live with your family and provide up to 45 hours per week of childcare on your schedule. As Local Coordinator, a big part of my job is to make sure that host families and au pairs are happy together, and that au pairs are getting the most out of their year in the U.S. I schedule monthly events for au pairs to meet and make friends, and I also schedule occasional events for host families to meet each other as well.
I’m here to provide support and answer any questions you may have about the program. If you’re in the Charlotte area, you can email me and I’ll be happy to answer your questions. It’s really easy to become a host family, and if you’re ready to apply, you can find our host family application online.
I hope to meet you soon!
Warm regards,
Paige
