Hello and welcome to Au Pair USA! My name is Heidi and I’m the Local Coordinator for the Detroit, Michigan area. My cluster of host families and au pairs includes the communities of Bloomfield Hills, Dearborn, Farmington, Grosse Pointe, Lake Orion, Sterling Heights, Troy and Warren, Michigan.

I have lived in Michigan and this area for most of my life, with a few adventurous international travels in between! I quit my full-time job to become a full-time mother, and my husband Jim and I have two beautiful children. We’ve hosted au pairs in our family, and the wonderful relationships I had with both my au pairs are what inspired me to become a Local Coordinator. I understand what it’s like for host families, with the excitement and responsibility of adding another young adult to your family. You should know that the au pairs are truly excited to be here, learning about life in America, and it’s a unique and wonderful experience to see this new “older sister” (or brother) step into their caretaker role, loving and caring for your children as if they were a member of your family.

There are many benefits to hosting an au pair. A live-in au pair can provide a more flexible schedule than day care centers, and they provide personalized care right in your own home. Au pairs can often teach new language skills, and give your children a broader sense of the world. It’s also more affordable than traditional nannies, at about $340 per week for your entire family, not just one child.
