The Au Pair USA Local Coordinator for the Rockville, MD area is:
Joanne Myers
Hello, and welcome to InterExchange Au Pair USA. I’m Joanne Myers, and I’ve been a Local Coordinator for the Montgomery and Frederick counties of Maryland since 2000. My host family cluster covers the areas around Frederick, Gaithersburg, Hagerstown, Potomac, and Rockville, MD.
To tell you a little about myself, I’ve been interested in cultural exchange my whole life, and understand it first hand. I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and moved to the United States when I was fourteen. My husband Michael and I now have two children, and I’m very happy that they are learning about the importance of cultural exchange as well. I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering and an M.S. degree in Applied Physics. Before I decided to become a Local Coordinator, I worked in the Computer Science field for ten years.
Being a Local Coordinator is great because I get to meet so many families in the area, and I get to meet and work with all the international au pairs as well. They are so excited to be here, sharing the American way of life with their host family, and their enthusiasm is contagious! Many of my host families signed up for the program because they were looking for a better child care option, but once they started seeing how much an au pair brings to their family, many of them stay with the program for several years.
Au pairs are actually an affordable alternative to nannies or day care centers. Host families receive quality live-in childcare on their own schedule for an average cost of $340 per week with no per-child fees. You set the weekly schedule with your au pair, so it’s much more flexible and convenient than day care. Au pairs really become like an older sibling living in the house, so you also get the peace of mind knowing that your kids are at home with a qualified, trusted “family member”.
If you’re thinking about hosting an au pair here in Maryland, send me an email. I’d be happy to answer your questions or tell you more about the program. If you’re ready to apply, you can also sign up using our online host family application.
Hope to hear from you!
Best wishes,
Joanne
