The Au Pair USA Local Coordinator for the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. suburbs area is:
René and David Brown
Hi there! We are René and David Brown and we are the Au Pair USA Local Coordinators for the Northern VA and D.C. Suburbs area. Our area covers many of the areas around Chantilly, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, Fairfax, Herndon, Leesburg, Reston and Winchester, VA.
We started as Local Coordinators with Au Pair USA back in 2004, but we have been a cultural exchange family for a very long time! We have 3 children, and over the years our family has hosted 19 exchange students from all around the world including Spain, Brazil, Japan, France, Germany, Tunisia, England, Uruguay and Russia. René has worked in the world of international exchange for over 20 years, and we both love meeting all the young women and men who come to the U.S. as part of the au pair program.
If you’re wondering if the Au Pair USA program is right for your family, we can help answer some of your questions, and maybe give you an idea of what to expect. Hosting an au pair can be a great cultural and educational experience for your children, but you might not realize that it could also be an effective way to control your child care costs. Au pairs have a set stipend that they are paid, plus they receive room and board in your home. Your actual cost would average $340 per week, which includes child care for your entire family, not just one child. This can be a lot less than many nannies or day care centers.
Live-in au pairs also make it more convenient for busy parents. You’ll know that your child is being cared for at home by a trusted and experienced child care provider. Au pairs become more like an older sibling to the children, but one who knows your “house rules” and can provide consistent, personalized care and playtime.
We hope you’ll call us if you’re looking for an au pair in the Metro DC area. We have a wonderful network of host families and au pairs, and we’d love to introduce you to the program. Send us an email with any questions, or if you think you’re ready to apply, we also have an online host family application that only takes about 10 minutes to complete. Hope to speak with you soon!
Cheers,
René & David
