Welcome to Au Pair USA! My name is Sandra Johannson and I’m the Au Pair USA Local Coordinator for the communities around Phoenix, AZ. My cluster of host families and au pairs covers Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, Sun City, Surprise and Tempe, as well as the rest of Maricopa County.

I’d love to tell you a little about myself. I grew up here in Arizona, but I also have a lot of personal experience with cultural exchange. I was born in Tachikawa, Japan, and then raised in Phoenix. During my high school years, I spent my summers in France. After high school, I spent a year teaching English in Osaka, Japan.

As a Local Coordinator, I now work with families who are searching for a better childcare option. I understand the problems that parents face when trying to find reliable and affordable childcare. I worked in the child care field for five years, and then for three years, I was an After School Director at a local private school. Working parents are always struggling with making daycare work with their schedule, and finding a reliable way to get their kids to after-school activities.

This is why I joined Au Pair USA! Au Pair USA is a cultural exchange program that matches your family with a live-in international au pair. I’ve seen how hosting an au pair can make life a lot easier for busy working families. The au pairs provide up to 45 hours per week of flexible live-in childcare, including some evenings and weekends. Childcare stays in your own home, so au pairs become more like an older sibling than a babysitter. Au pairs are also more affordable than many nanny services. The average cost is $340 per week, with no per-child fees.
