Maureen Hughes-Gress
Hello! My name is Maureen Hughes-Gress and I’m the Local Coordinator for the San Francisco and Napa Valley area. Welcome to the Au Pair USA program! I have been a Local Coordinator with Au Pair USA since 1998 and have lived in San Francisco since 1985. I am originally from England, and when I first moved here, I started out as a nanny. I myself once spent a year as an au pair in Denmark, so I’ve got years of experience and a real insider’s knowledge of au pair programs.
Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of host families who were looking for a better child care option. They often come to Au Pair USA because they know another family who has an au pair, or they’ve found that day care centers don’t provide the customized attention or flexibility they need. Live-in au pairs offer families a lot more scheduling flexibility. With an au pair looking after your children you will avoid rushing to drop off at day care in the mornings and you’ll also have child care on holidays or when children are home from school. Once families discover how affordable the au pair program can be compared to many nanny agencies, they stay with our Au Pair USA San Francisco cluster of host families for many years.
My job as Local Coordinator is to familiarize you with the program, answer any questions you may have and help you find the perfect au pair for your family. I’m also here to make sure that you and your au pair get the most out of the program. I host “family days” where you can meet other host families. I also organize monthly meetings for au pairs to meet-up, make friends, and have some fun while they’re here in the San Francisco Bay area.
I look forward to getting to know your family. We have an easy 10-minute online application for host families, but if you have questions, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to e-mail me.
Best wishes,
Maureen
