Living with an Au Pair
Host Family Responsibilities
When you host an au pair, you’re more than an employer. You’re the au pair’s extended family in the United States, and their most important connection as they live in a new country. Most host families find that their relationship with their au pair forms the basis of a strong bond that lasts long after the au pair’s stay.
To ensure that both the host family and the au pair have a productive and enjoyable experience, Au Pair USA asks host families to meet several requirements.
Au Pair USA Host Families Must:
- Welcome the au pair as an extended member of your family
- Include the au pair in most family meals, outings, holidays, and celebrations
- Provide a private room and meals for the au pair
- Guarantee that the au pair will work a maximum of 45 hours per week
- Assist with transportation to classes and cluster meetings with the Au Pair USA Local Coordinator
- Participate in an annual Family Day with other host families
