Applying to Be an Au Pair

Congratulations on your decision to apply to InterExchange Au Pair USA. Our application process is quick and simple. Here's how it works:

  1. Fill our the Application Request form
  2. An InterExchange representative in your home country will send you an application
  3. Return your completed application
  4. Attend an interview with the InterExchange representative in your area
  5. Once you're accepted, we'll begin the matching process

Requirements to be an Au Pair

Before you apply, make sure you meet all of these requirements. You must:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 26
  • Live in a country where Au Pair USA has a representative
  • Be English-speaking
  • Commit to at least 12 months with your host family
  • Have, or be able to obtain, an international driver's license

Helpful Tips

  • If you have at least 200 hours of experience caring for children under age 2, let us know. There is a very high demand for au pairs who can care for young children.
  • Get as much driving experience as possible. In most American communities, driving is essential and host families are looking for au pairs who are good, experienced drivers.
  • You should be open to living anywhere in the United States. We cannot guarantee placement in a specific area.
  • The matching process can take several weeks. Apply early and be patient!
  • If you have any questions about the program or the application process, please email us.

What Our Au Pairs Say

My ideas about being an au pair fit completely with the job I am doing here. My host parents and the kids treated me as a member of their family from the first day.”

~ Elsa, au pair from Germany

What Our Host Families Say

“Our au pair, Gitka, is a sweet, conscientious and responsible person. It has been a pleasure to have her as part of our family.”

~ Jeanne R., South Lyon, Michigan
