What Do I Need to Know?

It's natural for parents to be concerned if their child wants to spend a year in a foreign country. With, InterExchange Au Pair USA, you can rest assure that your child is part of a safe, legal and established program with an excellent international reputation.

Safety Measures

Our first responsibility is to the safety and well-being of our au pairs and their host families. Our thorough screening process ensures that our au pairs are placed with host families who will provide a safe and secure environment.

Before accepting a host family into our program, a local coordinator visits their home to ensure that they have a private bedroom for the au pair, and that they understand the responsibilities of being a host family.

Your daughter or son will also have medical and accident insurance to ensure that they have access to quality, affordable medical care while they are in the United States.

Support in the United States

While your child is in the United States, she or he will have access to 24-hour support, both from the local coordinator in the area and from the national InterExchange Au Pair USA staff, located in New York City. We are here to help with any issues, challenges, or emergencies that our au pairs encounter-from culture shock, to medical problems, to issues with the host family.

Life as an Au Pair

As an au pair, your daughter or son will be primarily responsible for providing live-in child care for the host family. Au pairs may work a maximum of 10 hours per day and/or 45 hours per week. The host family pays the au pair a weekly fee and provides room and board. The host family also provides an educational stipend so that the au pair can take classes at a local university.

Au pairs are not housekeepers or domestic employees; instead, they are treated as an extended member of the host family, and are included in most family meals, outings, events, and celebrations.

The au pair experience offers young adults a unique and authentic way to experience American family life. It will be a life-changing year that your daughter or son will never forget!
