Becoming a Host Family
with InterExchange Au Pair USA
Au Pair USA is a cultural exchange program that matches young people from around the world with host families in the United States. Au Pair USA host families agree to welcome their au pair into their home as an extended family member, in exchange for live-in childcare services.
Host families provide room, board, and a weekly cash stipend to the au pairs in exchange for up to 45 hours per week of childcare services. Host families may choose between the 12-month or summer-only program options. All au pairs complete an extensive orientation and training program in New York City before arriving with their host family.
Host families are required to:
- Be willing to accept an au pair into the home as an extended family member.
- Be willing to include the au pair in family meals, outings, holidays and other family events.
- Speak English and be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.
- Be able to provide meals and a private room for your au pair (a private bathroom is not required).
- Reside in an area covered by an Au Pair USA local coordinator.
- Agree to the terms set by the U.S. Dept. of State.
