Experiences From the Field

Expanding Your World

InterExchange Foundation Grant Recipient Jennifer F., Public Health Volunteer in China "My time volunteering in China helped me clarify my future career plans. While abroad I perfected my Mandarin skills, learned more about the implementation of medicine in a hospital and in the field, as well as what it takes to successfully run an organization…While I still wish to practice medicine, I now intend to pursue a degree in health care management. I want to find out what makes people sick, and how to change that. The Christianson Grant helped to teach me that."

— Jennifer F., Public Health, China, Christianson Grant Recipient

Serving the Community

"I discovered that many of the challenges that I face in my work in California are similar to the challenges facing Costa Ricans. Though we are far apart, we are all working to curb community violence, to increase community involvement and to raise happy and productive future generations."

— Michelle N., Social Work & Services, Costa Rica, Working Abroad Grant Recipient

Learning Through Action

InterExchange Foundation Grant Recipient Aaron M., COmmunity Development Volunteer in Guatemala "I have learned how intertwined sustainable agricultural practices are with the well-being of poor rural communities, and how essential sustainable agriculture is to the development and autonomy of these communities. I´ve learned how complicated it can be to help as an outsider, but also good strategies to do so. I have so many stories from this trip, each a rich experience that has impacted my life in countless ways."

— Aaron M., Community Development, Guatemala, Christianson Grant Recipient
