About Our Participants

The international students who participate in Work & Travel USA are full-time university students in their home countries. We accept only the most motivated and enthusiastic students into our program. Candidates for the program are assessed on their personality, skills, and level of English proficiency.

We recruit from more than 65 countries around the world. Students from countries in the Northern Hemisphere are typically available to work during the summer months, and students from the Southern Hemisphere are available to work during the winter months.

InterExchange does extensive international recruiting throughout the year. You have the option to choose from our pool of pre-selected candidates, or to personally participate in the recruitment process.

I know who I want to hire: Self-Placement

If you already know an international student who you wish to hire—including a returning student—Work & Travel USA can provide J-1 Visa sponsorship through our Self-Placement Program.  This is a great option if you have experience hiring international students, or if you have a position available for a returning student.

With Self-Placement, we serve only as the visa sponsor. You communicate directly with the international student and handle the details, including arrival and departure dates, travel details, and securing a Social Security number for the student.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You complete the Employment Agreement form and send it to the student you wish to, or send an official employment offer on company letterhead, including:
    * Company contact name and address
    * Job title and description
    * Number of hours to be worked per week and salary
    * Brief description of housing provided or available in the area
    * Length of employment commitment
  2. The international student brings the completed form to the InterExchange Work & Travel USA representative in his or her area.
  3. Work & Travel USA works with the local representative in the student’s home country to sponsor the J-1 Visa.
