Au Pair Mate in New Zealand

Program Details

An Au Pair Mate is more like an older sister or brother and they will often share similar interests with their Host Family – whether it is playing soccer, riding horses, teaching piano or even another language. Our Au Pair Mate program is designed for candidates who have more extensive child care experience, to care for children older than 5 years of age who typically go to school. Usual Au Pair Mate duties include babysitting, dropping off and picking up children from school, homework help, afterschool activities and so much more.

  • Time off during the week to explore New Zealand
  • The opportunity to study or undertake an internship in your spare time
  • A completion bonus paid upon completing your placement term as a contribution toward your return flight
  • ISE card - International Student & Youth Exchange Identification Card

Program Length

  • 6 – 12 months

Program Fee

$495

Program Fee includes:

  • Orientation course: 2 nights hotel accommodation and all meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Professional child care training from qualified teachers, course material and the opportunity to meet other au pairs.

  • CPR and first aid course: A tailor made CPR and first aid course for Au Pairs conducted by St John during orientation

  • Driving lesson: Two hour defensive driving course by a qualified instructor

  • Free room & board for up to 12 months: Room & board with your Host Family

  • Stipend of $120.00 - $200.00 NZD per week (after tax)

  • Professional development: Ongoing professional development opportunities in Early Childhood Education including training and fun activities

  • Au Pair meetings: Au Pair meetings on a monthly basis - share your experiences and make friends

  • Completion Bonus: $1,040.00 NZD Paid upon successful completion of the maximum 12 month placement term

  • English classes/Child care certificate: Opportunity to attend English classes. Au Pair Link will also be introducing a child care course (NZQA Level 3 Certificate)

  • Re-match: Up to 5 days paid accommodation if you require re-match i.e. placement in another Host Family. Conditions apply.

Au Pair Requirements

To be an au pair in this program, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Have minimum experience of 100 hours caring for children
  • Have a clean police record
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be unmarried and not have children
  • Be motivated for a stay in a different culture, away from your home, family and friends
  • Meet New Zealand's requirements for the Working Holiday Visa
