Become an Au Pair in Spain

With its sunny climate, joyful culture, and richly textured history, Spain is a truly amazing place to live as an au pair. Most of our placements are in and around Barcelona, one of the most exciting cities in Europe. Working as an au pair in Barcelona, you’ll see firsthand what life is like in this elegant and energetic city on the Mediterranean. One day you might take your host family’s children on an outing to see the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral or shopping on Las Ramblas. Perhaps you’ll just wander to the Boqueria market and sample some Spanish cheese, tortilla and of course—paella. On your time off, perhaps you’ll travel to one of the nearby cities on the coast or in the mountains. Of course, you’ll also improve your Spanish skills with the help of language classes, and even pick up the local Catalan language. Every day is sure to be a new adventure.

Program Details

You’ll provide a maximum of 30 hours of child care per week, and may be asked to babysit in the evenings, but no more than 3 times per week. The stipend you will receive is based on the number of hours you work per week, but can range between 205 and 360 Euros per month.  As an au pair in Spain, you’ll receive:

  • Placement with a carefully screened host family
  • A private room and full board
  • A monthly stipend ranging from 205-360 Euros (to be determined before departure)
  • 2 weeks of paid vacation per year (1 week for 6-month placements)
  • At least 1 complete day off per week (usually Sunday)
  • Help with transportation costs if placed in the outskirts of Barcelona
  • ISE card - International Student & Youth Exchange Identification Card

  • 3 months (summer placements )
