Standard Au Pair Program in New Zealand
Program Details
Au pairs in New Zealand provide between 20 and 45 hours per week of child care. The number of hours depends on the needs of the family and will be agreed upon prior to commencement of placement. In addition to the regular hours worked, au pairs may be asked to babysit an additional 2 evenings per week.
You will receive:
- Placement with a carefully screened host family
- A private room and full board
- A weekly stipend of NZ $60-$210 depending on hours worked
- At least 2 complete days off per week
- A total of four weeks paid vacation in a 12 month period
- Connection to an online network of Au Pairs working throughout NZ
- An activities group with regular day trips, outings and activities
- Monthly coffee group for au pairs (in Auckland)
- Weekly playgroup for au pairs and their charges (in Auckland)
- A quarterly newsletter
- Re-matching service (conditions apply)
- 24 hour telephone assistance
- ISE card - International Student & Youth Exchange Identification Card

Participant Requirements
To be an au pair in New Zealand, you must:
- Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen between 18 and 30
- Have good child care experience
- Be unmarried and not have children
- Be motivated for a stay in a different culture, away from your home, family and friends
- Meet New Zealand's requirements for the Working Holiday Visa
