Home Tutor Program in Ecuador

Ecuador is one of the most stunning and diverse countries in South America. If you are interested in teaching English in an informal setting, gaining first-hand insight into family life in Ecuador and brushing up on your Spanish skills, look no further! In your free time, you will be able to explore the beauty of this small South American country, from its Amazonian jungles and stunning mountains to its UNESCO world heritage sites. You can choose to be in Quito, the stunning capital of Ecuador, the charming city of Cuenca or the beautiful Galápagos Islands.

Program Details

The home tutor Ecuador program is designed for native English speakers who would like to visit Ecuador in order to teach English, improve their Spanish language skills and gain a deeper understanding of the Ecuadorian culture. The aim of the program is to provide Ecuadorian families with private language tutors for children. You’ll provide 15 hours of English language tutoring per week for children and possibly adults in exchange for room and board with a host family.

As a Participant in Ecuador, You Will Receive:

  • Detailed orientation upon arrival and walking tour in Quito
  • Airport pickup service
  • 24/7 Emergency help
  • Full room and board Monday – Friday; Weekends: Breakfast
  • Optional organized activities over the weekends
  • ISE card – International Student & Youth Exchange Identification Card

Program Length

  • Between 3 and 12 weeks

Program Start Dates

  • Year-round

Program Fee

  • 3 weeks: Quito and Cuenca -$995; Galápagos Islands – $1,795
  • 4 weeks: Quito and Cuenca – $1,095; Galápagos Islands – $1,895
  • Additional weeks: Quito and Cuenca – $195 per week; Galápagos Islands – $295

Participant Requirements

To work as a Home Tutor, you must:

  • Be a native English speaker
  • Be at least 20 years old
  • Have basic Spanish skills
  • Preferably have some previous teaching or tutoring experience
  • Be flexible and sociable
  • Enjoy working with kids, be patient and be willing to participate in activities including hiking, biking, horse riding, dance, arts and crafts
  • Meet the visa requirements for Ecuador
  • Fulfill all legal requirements as indicated in the full application packet
