Volunteer Ecuador

Have you been putting off completing your application for a Volunteer Working Abroad program?  We're giving you $50 reasons to submit your application between now and July 15, 2013!

Ecuador is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in South America. During your program, you will be able to explore the jungles of the Amazon, climb mountains, visit UNESCO world heritage sites, shop at indigenous markets and meet some of the friendliest people on the planet!

As a Summer Camp Assistant in Quito, you will provide English lessons and assist local camp counselors with the organization with sports and arts activities for children and teenagers. You will have the chance to visit museums, ride cable cars and enjoy other local entertainment attractions organized by the summer camp.  You will also be able to improve your Spanish skills while spending time with children and local summer camp assistants.  Finally, you will have weekends to explore the region. 

Here is a sample of the schedule our Camp Assistants follow (NOTE: exact schedule may vary, and volunteers are encouraged to suggest other activities):

7:30am Breakfast at homestay or volunteer house
8:00am Departure to camp
8:45am Briefing by local camp coordinator
9:30am Activities: sports, arts, trips to parks or museums
10:30am Organize for morning snack
11:00am Activities, sports or English lessons
1:00pm Children get on their buses back home
1:30pm Lunch
2:30pm Plan next day’s activities
3:30pm Free time for leisure activities

 

As a Participant in Ecuador, You’ll Receive:

  • Detailed orientation upon arrival and walking tour in Quito
  • Airport pickup service
  • 24-hour emergency help
  • Half board, seven days per week
  • Accomodation in a home-stay or volunteer house
  • Optional organized activities over the weekends
  • Spanish lessons with host family accommodation and half board available at extra charge
  • ISE card - International Student & Youth Exchange Identification Card

Program Length

4-8 weeks.

Program Start Dates

Any Monday between June 24th and August 5th
Arrivals are on Sundays (Early arrival possible but room fees will apply)

Program Fee

  • 4 weeks: $1,495
  • 4 weeks plus 1-week Spanish course: $1,895
  • Additional weeks of Spanish lessons or Camp Assistant placement available at extra charge
  • Shorter placements may be available at a reduced cost

Accommodation Type

Home-stay or volunteer house.

Participant Requirements

To work in a summer camp in Ecuador, you must:

•    Be at least 18 years old
•    Be flexible and sociable and patient
•    Enjoy working with children
