In a mass mobilization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs or Global Goals), September 25th will mark a Global Day of Action (#act4SDGS) during which individuals and organizations worldwide can show their support for the SDGs.

InterExchange is showing its support for the Global Goals by offering a new grant opportunity for US students and graduates pursuing fields related to sustainability. The InterExchange Sustain Grant offsets the program fee for Sustainable Action Costa Rica, an 8-day educational tour offering insight into the Global Goals, engagement with Costa Rican NGOs working towards solutions, and adventure activities including volcano hiking, waterfall swimming, and zip-lining through the rainforest. The program starts from San José and continues with an action packed week in La Fortuna.

The Sustain Grant makes the program accessible to more Americans by removing the program fee, and covering expedited passport fees if needed. While participants on Sustainable Action need only be US citizens 18 and older, grant applicants must also be pursuing a degree related to sustainability, and must have a family income below $100,000.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals offer a useful framework for exploring topics like equality, responsible consumption, climate change, and the partnerships needed to work towards solutions. They also include targets and indicators to measure progress toward the goals. Sustainable Action Costa Rica will zoom in a four goals in particular, with opportunities to consider all 17, as well as the connections between them.

Those interested in joining the Sustainable Action Costa Rica program January 5-13 should apply by October 17th or inquire with InterExchange.
