Long Beach, Long Island

A five mile beach with a historic boardwalk, concerts and places to eat on Long Island. Getting There: Take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) from Atlantic Station in Brooklyn or Penn Station in Manhattan to Long Beach, then a short walk from the train. 1 hour Cost: $19 Round Trip on the LIRR, Beach Admission $12

Jones Beach, Long Island

Located on the South Shore of Long Island, it is known for nature and summer concerts. Getting There: Take the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station to Freeport, then transfer to the Jones Beach shuttle bus. 1 hour

Orchard Beach, Bronx

115 acres of beach, shops and playgrounds in the Bronx. Getting There: 6 train to Pelham bay, transfer the the Bx12 bus to Orchard Beach

Rockaway Beach, Brooklyn

Thought to be one of the best beaches within New York City. It has a long boardwalk and surfing opportunities. Getting There: Take the ‘A’ train to Broad Channel, transfer to the ‘S’ to Rockaway Park-beach 116th Street
