On Sunday, the Interexchange Au Pair USA Fairfield County cluster hosted a Host Mom and Au Pair tea as one of two host family events that are offered for the year. This was a fun event where the host moms had an opportunity to meet and speak with other host moms and meet other au pairs.
Each au pair brought a dessert or appetizer from their home country to share with the group. And what a wonderful smorgasbord of goodies it was! We had flapjacks from England, croissants from France, cheese balls from Brazil and a vast array of other goodies! Representing America was chocolate cake and soda!
All of the au pairs who attended introduced themselves, explained what they brought and told where they were from, and how many kids they are taking care of. Each host mother spoke about how their au pairs have helped them. Introductions were followed by a round of "double jeopardy" where questions about the au pair program where asked, such as "how many hours can an au pairs work in a day?" The first person who answered correctly received a an Interexchange Au Pair USA prize such as a travel mug, tote bag, or t-shirt.
It was a lively group of people and a festive atmosphere. This is the 7th annual host mom and au pair tea. One host mom who has been with our program for many years said "the host mom tea is always my favorite event."
Our next host family event will be a wrapping party at Inspiraca/St. Luke's Lifeworks on Saturday, December 14th, where we will wrap presents donated by local business and organizations for children in Fairfield County who would not otherwise be receiving presents on Christmas Day.
