Transitioning from a college student to a working professional can be a daunting experience for many. It may sometimes feel as if you don’t know what next steps to take. One of the best ways to better prepare yourself for this transition into the real-world is to partake in an internship program in the United States. The immersion in another culture will add value to your resume and set you apart from other candidates in your prospective field.
Other advantages to interning in the United States include the following:
- Gain international experience along with the knowledge and skills you will learn on the job.
- Network with working professionals in your field.
- Increase your marketability, as an internship abroad adds great value on a resume.
- Improve your English speaking and writing skills.
Some of our InterExchange Career Training USA participants below have shared how interning in the U.S. has helped them in their present-day career.
Since I completed my InterExchange Career Training USA program I have started my own business, and I'm now working together with contacts I have met at my time abroad. I can recommend InterExchange to everyone who is interested in starting an international career.
—Alexander R., Austria, 2018 Engineering Intern
It was a huge challenge, to achieve a 5 months internship in a foreign country. I had to get out of my comfort zone, by pushing myself to discover new people, embrace a new culture and a new lifestyle. I learned a lot professionally. Before this experience, I had no idea how challenging the labor world is. Thanks to InterExchange, I had a great experience in California, professionally and socially speaking.
—Thomas L., France, 2018 Logistics and Materials Management Intern
I am currently working for one of the biggest aviation company over the world in France, Airbus. I think this program helped me to improve my competences as my English and my openness for example. I feel more confident and I take the difficulties with less apprehension.
—Sammy D., Austria, 2018 Engineering Intern
