Appalachian National Scenic Trail
The Appalachian Trail is a marked hiking trail originating in Maine and ending in Georgia. It has many scenic viewpoints and tourist destinations along the way, including areas of New York and bordering northern New Jersey in High Point State Park, Waywayanda State Park and Lake, Greenwood Lake, Bear Mountain State Park, Harriman State Park, Fahenstock State Park and Pawling Nature Reserve.

Transportation to destinations:If possible, renting a car is highly recommended. Public transportation is available, although limited in some towns. Hiring a taxi can be costly and they are often not readily available without booking in advance. Renting a car also allows you the flexibility to easily visit many towns, resorts, hiking/biking trails and parks in the region, according to your pace and schedule. The following destinations in the region are approximately 40 minutes to 2 hours from Manhattan.
