In the Exploratorium's Belly
Greetings from San Francisco!
Hi I’m Erica from Italy. It is my 20th day here. Time goes by so fast and I already discovered so many amazing things! I’m grateful to the technology that allows me to immortalize every beautiful moment and helps me to remember all that’s going on. San Francisco is so lively! Cultural, strange and funny events come out behind every corner.
Even the daily life is really exciting: I’m a trainee at the Exploratorium, the museum of science, art and human perception of San Francisco. The building is full of interactive and really fascinating exhibits about scientific phenomena. In these 3 weeks I had the opportunity of course to enjoy them during the day with schools, summer camps, families and on thursday night during the “After dark” program only for adults.
Backstage the staff work hard on lots of interesting projects. I’m mostly following the educational department that in this period is very busy with training workshops for teachers. They train teachers of primary school, middle school and high school with experimental investigations, constructions, methodology reflections and discussions.
Moreover there are many other departments involved in experimental activities. Two weeks ago, for example, I tested an app just developed by the Exploratorium in collaboration with Google.
An enchanting aspect for me is that a part of the staff at the Exploratorium is dedicated to producing their own exhibits, they study the perception of the visitor and they are always ready to improve and work on them. They also prepare exhibits to be placed in public area so that all the community can enjoy them. They just inaugurated some sound exhibits at the United Nations Plaza in San Francisco.
I really suggest that everyone visit this wonderful museum!
