Mardon Akhmedov, an InterExchange Career Training Participant from Uzbekistan, is about halfway through his internship with AFS, a study abroad company. He supports the work of their Digital and Online Strategy work group, and some of his tasks include the development of the member's website platform and a new customer facing website and database for programs abroad.
Mardon lives in Manhattan and has enjoyed his experience thus far. He told us he has “many favorite things to do here, such as walking on the Brooklyn Bridge, visiting Central Park, and going to Rockaway Beach for swimming every weekend. As I come from Central Asia, we don't have access to the ocean. When I saw the ocean so close, I was really excited and spent some of my time there with friends.”
He was even able to attend an InterExchange-organized talk and tour of the United Nations!
One of the most unforgettable experiences Mardon had was a wonderful staff retreat day organized by AFS. The company went to the Escape Room, an adventure game where you are locked in a room with friends and must find clues and solve puzzles to escape the room.
After the AFS team worked together to get out of the room, they attended a cooking class and made pizza, which was more fun than Mardon expected! They also did yoga in the park, which was great relaxation. The entire staff retreat day was full of unfamiliar activities, but it was thrilling and fun for everyone. Now, Mardon finds himself wanting to get involved in all kinds of company activities!
Mardon is excited for the remainder of his internship and all the opportunities for adventure in the U.S. His next goal: to experience an American basketball game with his new friends and colleagues.
