InterExchange Gap Year Scholarships!


Looking for a meaningful international experience for your gap year before college? Good news: InterExchange is waiving program fees for three gappers in 2020! Here are the details:

Home Tutor Italy (1 award available)

Live with a welcoming Italian family for 1-3 months. They’ll provide a private room, home cooked meals, and exposure to Italian culture through a local lens. A truly immersive, intercultural experience! You’ll have the limited responsibility of tutoring their children English for 15 hours/week (usually 3 hours/day during weekdays). The rest of your time is free to explore! Most host families are based in the Marche area of Italy.

Home Tutor Spain (1 award available)

The same as above but you’ll live in Spain! Most host families are in the Madrid area.

Work & Travel New Zealand (1 award available)

Live and work in New Zealand for up to one year (you don’t have to stay this long). You’ll arrive in Auckland for a Welcome Week of activities where you’ll meet new friends, attend a helpful orientation session, and receive other logistical support. After this, you can decide where to live, work, and travel! We help you find seasonal jobs to cover your living expenses and fund your travels.

What does the award cover?

Successful applicants will be awarded the following:

  • Waived program fee (between $695 and $895 depending on the program)
  • ISIC discount travel card valued at $99
  • Travel medical insurance for up to 6 months
  • InterExchange t-shirt
How do I apply?
  1. Each of the programs linked above has a Sign Up button on their web pages. If you’d like to apply for a gap year scholarship just follow the normal sign up process by March 13, 2020, uploading any required documents for your chosen program, PLUS:

  2. Upload an essay OR a link to a video explaining what’s motivating you to pursue a gap year and what you’re hoping to get out of it.

  3. Instead of paying the program fee deposit, email us with the subject line “Gap Year Scholarship” letting us know that you’ve completed an application so that we can waive your deposit payment.
