Au Pair USA is an au pair agency and cultural exchange program that has been helping American families find exceptional child care for over 25 years. We connect welcoming families with au pairs from around the world.
Hosting an au pair in your home can provide your children with dedicated, loving care, while offering a young person the opportunity to learn about the United States from your family and your community.
Why host an au pair?
An international au pair can provide in-home child care on a flexible schedule that meets the needs of your family. She can bring her culture and language with her family, and you have the chance to share your culture and community with her. Our host families also receive dedicated support from our network of amazing Local Coordinators. Hosting an au pair isn't just about child care – it's an enriching cultural exchange experience that often results in a lifelong bond between the host family and au pair!
What can an au pair do?
Whether you need someone to drive your pre-teens to school and practice, play with your toddler while you are at work, or provide another set of hands while you're at home with three small kids, an au pair can solve your child care needs. Au pairs can provide a maximum of 45 hours of child care per week, and 10 hours per day! Here are a few of the things that au pairs can do:
- Drive kids to and from school or activities
- Help with homework and school projects
- Prepare snacks and meals for the kids
- Help to keep play areas tidy
- Sing, play, draw, read, and create!
Please take note that au pairs can work no more than 45 hours per week or 10 hours per day. As a part of the program requirements, you must provide the au pair with a private bedroom, and food sufficient for at least 3 meals per day. The au pair can only do work related to the children.
Who are our au pairs?
Our au pair candidates are young people between the ages of 18 and 26 looking to travel to the U.S. to spend a year living with an American host family. They come from 30 countries worldwide, and while many of them are native speakers of another language, all are proficient in English. They all have completed their secondary education, and have at least 200 hours of verified child care experience. Our au pair candidates have a diversity of personalities, hobbies, and educational, cultural, linguistic backgrounds, and have expressed a love of children.
What our participants are saying
Nitta fits perfectly into our sometimes hectic and crazy household. She is always positive, energetic, highly responsible, reliable and most importantly, flexible. She always goes above and beyond what is asked of her, pitching in without being asked, and stepping in when we have emergency needs, for example. She gets along well with all of our family and friends. Even the grandparents love her! The Esparza Family
Before Hilke came into our lives, we were surviving. My husband and I felt like we were in a constant state of 'firefighting.' With two full-time jobs and three small children at the time (two with special needs and a two-year-old) we barely had time to stop and take a breath… Things are not like that anymore… Hilke is so dependable and supportive and another member of our family… We are so grateful for the opportunity to have Hilke in our lives. Our children absolutely adore her and we feel blessed to have her as part of our family. The Schmidt Family
