Days and Nights Off
I never expected that my days and nights off would be filled with so much adventure! These were the days that really solidified my relationships with my co-counselors.
I always made the most of my time off. I did a road trip through the Pocono Mountains, hiked through Bushkill Falls, made the great journey to the Six Flags theme park in New Jersey, hung out and relaxed on the beach in Atlantic City, and swam under a waterfall in Ithaca, New York. Living so close – only two and a half hours from NYC – I also spent two of my days off in the Big Apple.
Trip Days
As a counselor, you get paid to go to theme parks! Need I say more? During my time at camp, we went to Hershey Park (yes, this is the home of Hershey’s chocolate), Dorney Park, the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, the movies, and the Wayne County Fair.
These days were always filled with rides and stuffing our faces silly with copious amounts of fried food. I’m not ashamed to admit that at Wayne County, I managed to consume two sticks of chocolate covered strawberries, a milkshake, a walking taco, fries, freshly squeezed lemonade, and five deep-fried oreos. Most of it I didn’t even pay for – I just waited until my girls bought food and then decided they were full or didn’t want it anymore and then jumped on it. Jackpot!
Looking Forward
Being a camp counselor certainly has its fair share of challenges, but also an equal amount of rewards. I’ve learnt so much about myself and what I’m capable of, and I’m proud of the things I accomplished at camp. Without a doubt, I plan to return to Towanda next year. I encourage anyone else who is considering doing summer camp to just DO IT! It is hard work, but I couldn’t love it more!
Until next year, Towanda!
