Hi! My name is Guy Erlich and I’m a young Israeli architect. I did my studies in Bezalel Academy of Art and Design based in Jerusalem. After my studies and one year of experience as an architect in Israel, I decided to go and train and experience the city that inspired me, where I decided I wanted to become an architect: New York City.

I remember when first arrived, I was shocked at how fast things moved and wondered if I would ever be able to adapt to the local lifestyle and feel like a part of this fantastic urban environment. Trust me, you do want to be a part of it! Once I was here, suddenly I realized that the possibilities are enormous! There is something to do, anytime and everywhere – which is beyond imagination – and the best way to know about events taking place is through people.

My advice is not to be shy or scared because of the cultural differences. I discovered that the American people are curious and interested in hearing other people’s stories.

I am extremely thankful to have this professional opportunity as well, since I love being exposed to a vast variety of materials and techniques. The design approach and the project management styles here are so different from Israel; it has been an eye-opening experience. I have been learning concept development, fluent working procedures, and new software.

I truly enjoy the American way of life, and especially the New York lifestyle and work culture. My life here has changed from the one I had in Tel Aviv. I try to stroll around the city after work and on weekends. I am extremely active since there’s always something to see and do.

This experience is one of the best things I’ve done. I discovered new things about myself, both professionally and socially. This program is important to me because I believe it will affect my future and give me an advantage for the rest of my life.
