Your J-1 guide to

New Jersey

The Garden State

New Jersey sits between New York City and Philadelphia, making both easy day trips. Winters bring cold weather and some snow, while summers stay warm and humid—perfect for the beach. The Jersey Shore offers beautiful beaches and lively boardwalks, Cape May charms visitors with its peaceful Victorian seaside streets, and Atlantic City brings casinos, entertainment, and classic boardwalk fun.

History lovers can walk through the Battleship New Jersey, a real World War II warship, or visit Revolutionary War battlefields. The state also has beautiful gardens and mountains that look stunning in fall. Getting around takes some planning: renting a car offers the most freedom, while New Jersey Transit connects well to New York City and Philadelphia. With more variety than most visitors expect, New Jersey makes a great base for exploring the Northeast.
