If want to explore international sustainable development while checking off some bucket list adventures and meeting great people in the process, then Sustainable Action Costa Rica is the program for you.

With more than 50 years of experience engaging students and young professionals in life-changing cultural exchange programs, InterExchange is your ideal guide for personal growth and adventure. We’ll explore questions such as:

  • How did Costa Rica become a renowned example of success in environmental conservation?
  • What does it mean to move the world in a sustainable direction?
  • Is Costa Rica a fitting role model for sustainable development in larger nations?

Travel from Alajuela to Puerto Viejo and Bri Bri, exploring how local NGOs and communities are tackling challenges of environmental and social sustainability. Guided group activities and discussions will take your inquiry deeper. Along the way you’ll have the chance to bike at the beach, swim in a waterfall, zipline, and spot local wildlife!

Environmental Insights

Gaining hands-on experience and insight into the issues that animate our world today is essential. This program will provide you an immersive engagement with global development topics.

Each day, we’ll dive into topics of sustainable development in Costa Rica. We’ll visit local organizations to gain insight into major social and environmental challenges in the country, and innovative solutions. These organizations include an NGO focused on local education and self-advancement, a permaculture farm, an ecological reserve, community conservation initiatives, and more.

Group Discussions

Reflection and discussion is key to making sense of it all. Guided by experienced group leaders, we’ll take time each day to process our daily experiences through reflections, discussions, and other group activities. Prior an online meet-and-greet will offer an introduction to the group.

Outdoor Activities

Along the way, we’ll stay active by biking at the beach, hiking in nearby rainforests, swimming at a waterfall, ziplining, and more.

Come prepared for an active program, both mentally and physically!
