1. Sign up

Complete our easy sign up process, and indicate your estimated start dates. If you're a U.S. citizen between 18 and 30, you can enroll with InterExchange and start your program almost any month of the year. We prefer that you sign up at least six weeks before your desired travel date.

2. Get your visa

Obtain your Australian Work and Holiday Visa online. It's a quick and easy process, with a typical turnaround of about a week (though this can vary).

3. Book your flights

Check out the specific start dates for Melbourne and Sydney. Be sure to confirm space availability for your desired date.

4. Arrive

You'll have transportation from the airport to your accommodation and a dorm-style room for your first week, which is a great place to meet some new people early in your program.

5. Welcome Week

You'll attend an orientation session at the office of our partner in Melbourne or Sydney, where you'll learn more about finding work, travel, logistics, and connecting with other participants. Throughout your first week you'll join activities and excursions with other new participants, a great way to get your first taste of the country and meet some new people!

6. Travel, work, and get paid!

Friendly staff in Melbourne and Sydney are on call to speak with you about your job goals and can connect you with employers for short-term work. Participants who are engaged with the support staff are usually able to find work within 1-2 weeks. You can stay, travel, and work for up to a year! U.S. citizens can now extend for a second year - ask us how!
