What is it?
Form 1040-NR is the tax form you use to file your U.S. income taxes if you earned money during your exchange program. The “NR” stands for “nonresident”—you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. You file this form to pay any taxes you owe or to get a refund if too much tax was taken from your paychecks.
