Frequently Asked Questions
Does InterExchange offer study abroad programs?
InterExchange focuses on experiential learning opportunities rather than traditional academic courses. Although we offer immersive language courses through our partner, Máximo Nivel, the programs are designed to enhance participants’ personal growth rather than to academic credit.
Does InterExchange work with high school students?
Most of programs require a high school diploma, but we’re happy to work with graduating seniors or recent grads who will be at least 18 years of age at the time they begin their programs.
Our partner Máximo Nivel has a summer youth camp program for youth 13-17, and can accept youth from age 17 in some programming.
What are the benefits of taking a gap year abroad?
For students, gap years offer time to gain real-world experience, build confidence, and return to school with renewed focus and purpose. For counselors, supporting gap years can lead to better long-term outcomes—students who take a gap year often perform better academically, are more engaged, and are more likely to graduate on time. Let’s take a deeper dive into some of these benefits below.
What if my student is already enrolled for the upcoming semester?
Graduating students can often request to postpone college admission for a set time after being accepted to a school. Depending on the school’s policies, students can request a deferment by writing a letter or filling out a form, and the college can choose to reserve the spot for the following term or year.
Depending on your district’s policies, this could mean than your students could experience a gap year abroad without impacting the college acceptance rate of their graduating class.
Additionally, some programs are shorter in duration and can be enjoyed during students’ academic breaks.
Does InterExchange operate its own programs abroad?
InterExchange programs are administered abroad by respected and thoroughly vetted third-party organizations like Máximo Nivel, AIFS Australia, and SWAP Working Holidays Canada. In 2018, InterExchange acquired Gapforce UK, which continues to operate separately from InterExchange but provides a solid partnership to offer thoughtfully-curated group travel opportunities.
How do I contact InterExchange with more specific questions?
