Social Security Card

What is it?

A Social Security card is an official U.S. government document that shows your Social Security Number (SSN)—a 9-digit number that identifies you for work and taxes. You need it to work legally in the U.S. Your SSN is yours forever—if you return to the United States in the future, you’ll use the same number.
