Form W-2: Wage and Tax Statement

What is it?

A W-2 is a tax form that shows how much money you earned during the year and how much tax was taken out of your paychecks. Your employer sends you this form in January for any money you earned during the previous calendar year. You need it to file your U.S. income taxes.

Who needs it?

*This information pertains only to InterExchange-specific programming.

Note: Au Pair USA participants generally do not receive a W-2 from their host families and are responsible for keeping a record of their stipend payments.

Who manages it?

Your U.S. employer creates and sends you the W-2. Employers are required by law to send W-2 forms by January 31 to document any money you earned during the previous calendar year. The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) receives a copy and uses it to verify the information you report on your tax return.
