Form W-4: Employee’s Withholding Certificate

What is it?

A W-4 is a form you complete on your first day of work. It tells your employer how much tax to take out of each paycheck. The amount of tax taken out is called “withholding.”

Who needs it?

Your U.S. employer receives and keeps your W-4. You do not send it to the IRS.
