Form W-4: Employee’s Withholding Certificate

What is it?

A W-4 is a form you complete on your first day of work. It tells your employer how much tax to take out of each paycheck. The amount of tax taken out is called “withholding.”

NOTE: Non-U.S. residents will eventually file a 1040-NR form, which requires you to follow special W-4 withholding rules.
