Communication with InterExchange

InterExchange is here to support you throughout your program, not just during emergencies. From your arrival to your departure, we want to stay connected with you and help you navigate cultural adjustment, work questions, and everyday life in the U.S.

Staying in touch throughout your program

Good communication is a two-way street. Here’s how to keep it going:

  • Respond to check-ins. Your Local Coordinator or InterExchange staff may reach out periodically to see how you’re doing. Please reply promptly, even with a quick “all is well.”
  • Update your contact information. If you change your phone number, address, or email, let us know right away so we can always reach you.
  • Reach out with questions, big or small. You don’t need to wait for a problem to occur to reach out. Feel free to contact us about your job, housing, visa status, travel plans, or general adjustment to life in the U.S.
  • Keep your host employer and Local Coordinator informed too. Let them know about schedule changes, time off requests, or anything affecting your work.

How to reach us

  • Contact InterExchange by phone or email. Details are on our contact page.
  • Your Local Coordinator (if you have one) is often your fastest point of contact for day-to-day questions.
  • Save these contacts in your phone before you need them, not after.

When you’re out and about

Whenever you’re venturing out, always let someone know where you are going and when you will return. If your plans change, contact them and keep them updated. This applies to day trips, weekend travel, and any time your routine changes, not just unusual situations.

Speaking up

In addition to keeping people informed about your location, it’s important to speak up if something feels off, whether that’s:

  • Something inappropriate happening at work or in your program
  • Confusion or disagreement about your job duties, pay, or housing
  • Feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure who to turn to

You don’t need to wait until something becomes a serious problem. Small concerns are easier to resolve early, and we’d rather hear from you sooner.

In case of an emergency

Notify the authorities and contact InterExchange immediately if you are threatened in any way by your employer, colleagues, landlord, or anyone else during your stay. We are here to be an advocate and support system for you.
