The Benefits of Hosting International Interns & Trainees

Why should you host a J-1 intern or trainee at your company? Hosting not only gives international interns and trainees an amazing opportunity to learn about life and work in the United States, but it also brings an array of benefits to your company as well.

As a host employer, you’ll have confidence that the interns and trainees who participate in our program are qualified in their field and motivated by clear goals. They are also dedicated to learning about American culture and values, as well as sharing the culture and values of their home country with you. Their fresh perspectives and new ideas can invigorate you and your employees, and many host employers tell us that they learn as much as they teach.

Many of our host employers have had such a wonderful experience that they continue to host exceptional international interns and trainees through our program again and again. Here’s why:

“Learning other [country’s] culture is definitely helpful to expand our business and network.” – Binex Line Corp, 2021 host

“Every opportunity to expose our staff to other cultures and practices is an opportunity for them to grow.” – L Observatoire International, 2019 host

“As a global company servicing over 90 destinations with clients from over 150 countries, the ability to have a multi-cultural background is not only of advantage but in my opinion a necessity to excel in our industry. So whether it is a senior level position or an internship position, we want to make sure we have a very diverse group of individuals who collectively strengthen our understanding of our clients and, as a result, produce better work in an encouraging, positive and safe environment.” – Liberty International USA, 2020 host

“They not only do a great job once they’re trained but they add so much positivity to our work environment. We watch them fall in love with the industry and fall in love with New York City.” – Christy Rilling Studio, 2020 host
International interns and trainees are:
  • Committed and reliable
  • Passionate and motivated
  • Adaptable, flexible, and resourceful
  • Great team players
  • Conscientious and pay attention to detail
They have great:
  • Communication skills
  • Technological skills
  • Creative and analytical skills
  • Attitude and confidence

Unlike many U.S. college interns, participants in Career Training USA can stay with you far beyond the length of a single academic semester. Interns are eligible to stay an entire year, while professional trainees can remain at your company for up to 18 months. They can also start at any time during the year.

As you can see, international students and young professionals bring a variety of cross-cultural benefits to your workplace, including proficiency in foreign languages. With different education, experience, and insights than your U.S. employees, they bring a global perspective to your business. Enthusiastic about gaining career experience, international interns and trainees are also exceptionally eager to learn from your U.S. employees.

Why Choose InterExchange?

International internships and training programs offer great benefits to companies in the U.S. InterExchange Career Training USA makes it easy and affordable to tap into the talents of young professionals from around the world.

Quality

We approve only the most qualified individuals, screening each participant for maturity, motivation, and English fluency. Before accepting a candidate into our program, we conduct a thorough interview, verify related work experience, and ensure that he or she is qualified to receive a J-1 Visa.

Affordability

Employers pay no program, visa, or placement fees to participate in our program. Career Training USA is a virtually free service to employers. Most employers compensate their interns or trainees, but you decide what to pay participants (though longer programs will be subject to minimum wage requirements). If your company has fewer than 25 employees and less than three million dollars in annual revenue, U.S. Department of State regulations mandate that we perform a site visit at your organization prior to accepting you into the program. We have a one-time fee of $250 to perform a site visit. Once the visit is completed, you won’t have to pay any further fees.

We’ve been providing cultural exchange opportunities for more than 40 years. We have a thorough understanding of all the regulations and procedures involved in international internships and training programs, and we know how to keep the process simple for you.
